- ➤ Avondale Estates officials will vote on a $30,000 fireworks contract at a Wednesday meeting to bring back the July 4 show at the DeKalb County School of the Arts if the agreement is signed by Feb. 1 + a $15,300 deposit is made by March 1. WSB-TV
- ➤ DeKalb County is replacing 6,600 linear feet of Grant Drive water main as part of a $4.27 billion watershed upgrade; work will last 7 months (Feb–Aug) from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Residents can join a virtual meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 27 at 6:30 p.m. On Common Ground News

- ➤ The Georgia Department of Health reported the first measles case of 2026 on Jan. 14, and Dr. Andi Shane expressed strong concern about the outbreak. Health officials are monitoring the situation and reminding residents to follow health guidelines. Atlanta News First
- ➤ Officials with DeKalb County Animal Control reported the first positive rabies case of 2026 from a raccoon found in the South Gresham Park area on Jan. 13. They advise residents to update pet vaccinations (a key preventative measure) and report any unusual animal behavior. The Champion
