CULTURE NEWS

  • An exhibit on Memorial Drive’s history is on view at the DeKalb County History Center in Decatur. It shows modern photos and artifacts about the road and is open Monday-Friday, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. and Saturday, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Admission is free.  The Champion

  • A bill is before lawmakers to let Georgia parents choose when to start school for their children + the proposal may give families more control over academic calendars as debates are expected soon.  WSB-TV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Chattahoochee National Park will expand its trail system from 66 to 100 miles with 34 new miles added through the Island Ford project. Residents should watch for details on the planned opening date.  Fox 5 Atlanta

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • CARFAX and NHTSA reported nearly one million vehicles nationwide have open recalls for car seat LATCH anchors, including about 40,000 in the region. Local owners should use their VIN (found on the driver-side door jamb) to check recall status and schedule free repairs when needed.  FOX 5 Atlanta
  • DeKalb County crews demolished a long-vacant home on Regalwoods Drive in Doraville today as part of a blight-fighting effort that has cleared 457 properties since 2019. The demolition cost about $34,000, with the expense to be repaid by the property owner.  WSB-TV

  • Metro Atlanta residents seek shelter and food assistance as bitter cold persists and below-freezing temperatures continue, with further drops forecasted later this weekend.
