- ➤ 350 metro students attended the Atlanta College and Career Expo at Georgia Tech on Thursday, Feb. 12, where they explored careers in STEM, entertainment & finance and met executives from Google, Amazon & Coca-Cola. Fox 5 Atlanta
- ➤ Georgia lawmakers passed Senate Bill 150 (48 to 1 vote) on Feb. 12, allowing retired teachers with 25 years of service to return to work while drawing benefits and mandating a 12-month waiting period. The measure will reauthorize the program through 2034 and now goes to the House. Fox 5 Atlanta
- ➤ DeKalb County’s Board of Education met Feb. 9 in Stone Mountain to share draft plans for closing over 24 schools (including Stoneview Elementary) due to declining enrollment and operating costs. They will host community meetings through May and plan to make final recommendations in December. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
- ➤ The DeKalb County School District revealed a plan to close 27 schools, add space at 11 & change eight as it holds community meetings beginning Feb. 23 to gather input on declining enrollment. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

- ➤ Georgia Insurance Commissioner John F. King announced a 5% rate cut for Allstate’s private auto policies filed early this week that is expected to save about $17.7 million in 2026 for tens of thousands of drivers across the state. Fox 5 Atlanta

- ➤ A new affordable senior living community opened Thursday at 515 East Freeman Street, offering 80 modern one- and two-bedroom apartments for seniors 62 and older.
