EDUCATION NEWS

  • Local nonprofit Construction Ready is hosting its 20th career expo at the Georgia World Congress Center today; over 12,000 students from 300 schools are learning about in-demand construction trades and available scholarships.  WSB-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • DeKalb County officials announced on Feb. 13 a new 90-day emergency shelter at 2582 Gresham Road that will house over 400 individuals with meals, showers, and wraparound services + job readiness support; Frontline Response manages the facility as part of a $1.2 million effort to boost housing stability.  The Champion
  • The Georgia Senate voted 49+1 on Friday to approve a state budget amendment that allocates $409 million for a 300-bed forensic mental health hospital, the state’s first new psychiatric facility in more than 60 years, with construction planned for Augusta or Atlanta as officials address jail overflow.  Atlanta News First
