  • Workers at a local company say they have not been paid in months and report that their taxes were not forwarded to the IRS. The allegations have raised concerns, and the matter remains under review.  WSB-TV

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Southern Company announced a massive federal loan that could yield $7 billion in benefits for local power customers by funding grid upgrades such as new natural-gas fueled power plants — transmission improvements may help lower rates, though some residents oppose planned data center developments.  Atlanta News First

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A DeKalb County committee advanced a plan on Thursday to open a homeless day center at Peace Baptist Church on Covington Highway; the Salvation Army will run it with services Monday to Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. + the full commission will vote in two weeks.  Fox 5 Atlanta

HEALTH NEWS

  • The FDA announced a recall for Great Value fat-free and low-fat small curd cottage cheese sold at Walmart from Feb. 17 to Feb. 20, affecting products in 24 states (including Georgia). Decatur shoppers are advised to check labels before purchasing.  Fox 5 Atlanta

SPORTS NEWS

  • Jeff Galloway, the first winner of the Peachtree Road Race and an Olympian, died Wednesday from a hemorrhagic stroke in Pensacola, Florida. He was 80, had survived heart failure in 2021, and leaves behind two sons and six grandchildren.  Atlanta News First
