  • Families enjoyed carnival-themed games and food at the 2nd annual Fair on the Square in Decatur on Saturday, March 22. The event was hosted by the Decatur Youth Council and teen leadership teams, and part of the funds were donated to DEAM — a local ministry helping those in need.  Decaturish

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Henry Frantz Jr.—the bagpiper of Decatur—died on March 10th at age 74 after a scuba diving accident in Hawaii and on March 16th his daughter confirmed that a skeleton found in his Garden Lane home treehouse is the remains of his son who had been missing for four years.  Decaturish

CRIME NEWS

  • Emile Fields-Marshall, a 26-year-old mechanic, was shot in the chest at a gas station on Covington Hwy on March 7th when a group attacked him over a car part—he left behind a 17-month-old child and police arrested two men while they are looking for two more, his mother said.  FOX 5 Atlanta

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Decatur Career Academy held a Student Career Expo Fair on Feb. 26 at Decatur High School where students learned about jobs, college programs, and internships from local businesses, schools, and community organizations. The fair featured panels and information tables—helping show new career paths and contributing nearly $320,000 to the local economy.  The Champion

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • DeKalb County officials say work to replace and rehabilitate 3,091 feet of sewer lines and manhole structures between Eastwyck Drive and Saratoga Drive will begin March 31 and lead to traffic delays and construction noise—crews will complete the project in March 2026 if weather remains clear.  WSB-TV
  • On March 21, UNICEF USA recognized Decatur as a child-friendly city as it earned the honor by implementing its Local Action Plan for Youth developed by a teen team to improve equity, mental health, public safety and public spaces (making Decatur the third U.S. municipality to gain this designation).  Decaturish
