- ➤ DeKalb County School Superintendent Devon Horton discussed school safety, teacher shortages, federal budget cuts and possible changes to education policy during his second State of the District address on March 27 at Fernbank Science Center. He noted that new safety measures—such as de-escalation training and a guard at every elementary school—cut suspensions by 2,000 and that his teacher residency program has certified 90 teachers as the district works to fill about 200 staff vacancies while preparing for future funding challenges.
