Good morning, Decatur.

Wellroot Family Services is finishing renovations at 750 E Lake Drive in Decatur as one apartment building nears completion to house transitioning youth by the end of April plus plans to start work on a second building and community center to be finished by late fall.

The upgrades include new flooring, windows and kitchens and will raise housing capacity from about 10 to 12 to 29 residents.

On March 29 and 30, DeKalb County officers used the new chase policy that permits the PIT maneuver to pursue and stop drag racers, arresting at least 10 suspects for traffic and DUI offenses while issuing over 40 citations, impounding vehicles and seizing several weapons.

City Schools of Decatur plans to move two Early Intervention Program teachers—one from Oakhurst and one from Winnona Park Elementary—to other roles as part of its FY26 budget draft that shows rising spending and will be voted on April 15.

Many parents and teachers worry the change could hurt students who need extra help with math and reading as the district starts a new literacy program.
