CULTURE NEWS

  • Jeff Dingler and Brigette Jones have co-authored Images of America: Arabia Mountain National Heritage Area, which releases today from Arcadia Publishing. The first book on the 40,000-acre area features rare photos including one of Senator John F. Kennedy at a UGA graduation in 1957 (spanning DeKalb, Henry, and Rockdale counties).  Fox 5 Atlanta
  • Outdoor spring concerts offer music from Run Katie Run, performing on April 12 at Tucker Town Green, to free jazz at Oakhurst Jazz Nights every Thursday at The Solarium on W. Hill St. Other events will be held across DeKalb County this season.  The Champion
  • A new jazz club will open this summer as part of the Mary Lou Williams Jazz Center at 141 E. Trinity Place downtown—partnered by Churchill Grounds and Cornerstone Jazz Collective, which will offer live performances, a restaurant, a recording studio and a music academy.   • Agnes Scott College presents its 55th Writers’ Festival with a pre-festival student reading today at 5 p.m. in the Alston Campus Center & free public readings on April 9 and 10 featuring diverse voices in literature.  The Champion

  • Today, five candidates for School District 4 board seat discussed leadership plans, fiscal responsibility & school reassignment reforms during a Decaturish virtual forum, with voting on May 19 and the winner set to serve starting in January 2027.  Decaturish

  • Decatur Day organizers and Beacon Hill elders urged City Schools of Decatur to hold a referendum on a bond to fund an early childhood learning center at 346 W. Trinity Place + create a historic Beacon Hill district, with the Historic Preservation Commission review on April 14.  Decaturish
  • Georgia officials have updated guidelines on the gas tax suspension, explaining what drivers should pay and how to report violations (aimed at helping residents follow the current tax relief policy).  Atlanta News First

  • After a 13-day West Coast trip without a day off, the Braves are set to face the Angels today at 9:38 p.m. and tomorrow at 4:07 p.m. in Anaheim; the Angels will miss Mike Trout (day-to-day with a hand injury) as they rely on other hitters.  Atlanta News First
