- ➤ Claratel Behavioral Health held a groundbreaking ceremony April 10 at 455 Winn Way in Decatur; a former clinic is being repurposed into a community access center for those with IDD and autism. The project will finish by year-end — the coffee shop will be named Meredith’s Cafe after $30K donation. Decaturish
- ➤ The final segment of Beltline’s Southeast Trail is set to open next week, completing the 22-mile loop that connects local neighborhoods (including Decatur). This new trail section will enhance outdoor access and encourage community recreation. Atlanta News First
- ➤ A small metro Atlanta school community held a rally on April 10 to support grieving families after three teenagers died in a spring break car accident in Northwest Florida. Fox 5 Atlanta

- ➤ Delta raised its checked bag fees as fuel costs increased, setting the first bag fee at $45, second at $55 & third at $200. The airline reported record Q1 revenue and expects fuel expenses to challenge its plans in the coming months. Fox 5 Atlanta
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ DeKalb County officials demolished another abandoned home this week as part of a neighborhood cleanup using heavy machinery to remove an unsafe property that had attracted animal infestations. This is the county’s 471st demolition and it plans to maintain these sites until they are sold. WSB-TV
- ➤ Residents and archaeologists requested an archaeological survey of the greenspace at 346 W. Trinity Place (owned by City Schools) during an April 6 city meeting to protect evidence of African American and Indigenous history. The request comes ahead of plans for an early childhood learning center at the site. Decaturish

- ➤ Bissell recalled 1.7 million steam cleaners after 206 reports showed hot water & steam causing burn injuries. Decatur residents who bought these models at local retailers such as Target & Walmart are urged to stop using them and contact Bissell for free new attachments. Fox 5 Atlanta
