The DeKalb County Police Department will host a free Spring 2025 Safety Fair on Saturday, April 26—from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.—at the Sunshine Shopping Center in Decatur and will offer VIN etching, child car seat checks and free gun safes along with tips to prevent key fob cloning.

Families can visit the event to learn essential safety measures for vehicles and children.

Outdoor concerts and festivals are returning this spring with events in Decatur and nearby areas such as the Solarium and Callanwolde in Atlanta.

Decatur residents can enjoy Oakhurst Jazz Nights every Thursday until April 24 and look forward to Amplify Decatur music shows from April 25 to April 27.

Decatur High School's mock trial team earned a trip to nationals in Phoenix—where they will compete from May 7 through 10—after winning the state championship in March against 118 teams.

The team also won several individual awards and has begun practicing for the national event.

DeKalb County will begin replacing about 1,900 feet of sewer mains and manholes on 2nd and 3rd Avenue in Decatur starting Monday, April 21, with work scheduled from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday, which may lead to increased noise and traffic.

A virtual community meeting is set for April 15 (6:30 p.m.) to share more details about the nine-month project.
