CRIME NEWS

  • On April 11, DeKalb County Police responded at 8:55 p.m. to a stabbing on Misty Creek Drive in Greater Decatur that left a man in his 30s in critical condition and led to a woman in her 30s being taken into custody—police said the incident may have started as an argument.  Decaturish

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Decatur School Board meets today at the Elizabeth Wilson School Support Center at 125 Electric Ave to review the tentative FY26 budget that cuts $3.2 million in expenditures—from $113.8 million to $110.6 million—mostly reducing instruction costs. If approved, the board will take the draft budget to a final vote on May 13 following scheduled public sessions.  Decaturish

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Decatur officials announced an $8.5 million plan to transform City Square as part of the Town Center Plan 2.0 and will hold an 11 a.m. groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday. The project—set to demolish the old bandstand and add green space, a pavilion, a splash pad and extra seating—will be funded by a local sales tax and is expected to finish in about 10 months before the FIFA World Cup in Atlanta.  WSB-TV
  • DeKalb County will begin a major water main replacement on April 22 in the Candler-McAfee neighborhood to replace 16,900 linear feet of water main along Rosewood Road between Glenwood and McAfee roads. The work will take place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays—excluding major holidays—and is expected to last 12 months with completion likely in March 2026.  Fox 5 Atlanta
  • DeKalb County is accepting applications for the Summer Youth Employment Program that will offer 350 internship spots for residents aged 16 to 21; accepted applicants will work 24 hours per week from June 2 through July 3 and earn $15 per hour. County officials said selections will be made by random lottery with unselected candidates placed on a waiting list and applications accepted through April 21.  The Champion

  • Georgia State University's baseball team plays its home games in Decatur at 2819 Clifton Springs Road and has a 15-3 record from 18 games this season. The Panthers will host 13 more home games until May 17 (tickets are sold at the gate) and lead their offense with star hitter Kaleb Freeman, who ranks among the top players in the Sun Belt Conference.  The Champion
