CRIME NEWS

  • An 18-year-old was arrested Tuesday night in DeKalb County for shooting a man on Windmill Lane that left him seriously injured—police say the dispute began the day before and the suspect, believed to be a relative, fled before being caught.  Fox 5 Atlanta

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Druid Hills High School Principal Dr. Michelle Stewart sent a letter on April 15 announcing she will leave effective April 25 after serving for less than one year—she plans to begin a new career after 25 years in education. The school district will soon name an interim principal while Michael Jones assists with daily operations until her departure.  Decaturish

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Georgia legislators from DeKalb, Gwinnett and Rockdale counties are hosting town halls today to update residents on the 2025 Legislative Session that ended on April 4—sessions will continue through April 30. State Representative Dar’shun Kendrick will lead a joint town hall from 6 to 8 p.m. at Centerville Community Center in Snellville where attendees can ask questions and get key updates.  On Common Ground News
  • A woman credited her recovery from fentanyl addiction to tough love after her husband learned about her struggle when she gave birth. She said the revamped family treatment court helped turn her life around — a sign of the program’s new approach.  Fox 5 Atlanta
  • At its April 15 meeting, the Decatur Planning Commission supported a conditional use permit for a creative village at Legacy Park that will let four former group homes be turned into affordable housing and studios for local artists. The city commission will vote on the permit on April 21—some neighbors have expressed both support and concerns about the park’s change in use.  Decaturish
