  • On Sunday, a rally at Decatur’s dReam Center Church featured speeches by local leaders including U.S. Rep. Nikema Williams and marked the start of the State of the People POWER Tour to boost Black voter engagement and set a national racial equality agenda. The tour began in Atlanta and will visit 11 cities before Juneteenth—promising community service and civic workshops to empower local voices.  The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
  • Decatur Rotary Club announced that local nonprofits in DeKalb County can apply for 2025-2026 community grants to support literacy and at-risk youth programs until May 16; grant amounts range from $1,000 to $3,000+ awards will be announced by June 2.  Decaturish

Scott Park (behind the recreation center at 2230 Tilson Road) called police after unauthorized motorcycles, ATVs and 4-wheelers repeatedly drove through the park, damaging the grounds and endangering families while officials arrange increased patrol support to address the issue.  The Champion

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • DeKalb County has launched the 2025 Summer Youth Employment Program to run from June 2 through July 3—offering paid internships to 350 local youth aged 16 to 21. The program will pay $15 per hour for up to 24 hours a week Monday through Thursday in sectors such as healthcare, education, technology, retail, and government—with participants chosen through a lottery system.  Decaturish
