- ➤ City Schools of Decatur’s Board of Education reversed its decision to remove DEI policies at a special meeting on April 29 after federal court injunctions blocked the removal process. - ➤ Global Village Project CEO Elizabeth Elango will step down on July 31 for personal reasons after five years leading the nonprofit middle school for refugee girls. - ➤ DeKalb County will begin the Harrington Drive Water Main Replacement Project on May 12 by replacing 9,500 feet of water lines with an 8-inch ductile iron pipe as part of its capital improvement program. - ➤ DeKalb County sought more time to address longstanding sewer issues in an April 30 hearing when its lawyers requested the court allow a full modification of a consent decree that originally set a 2027 deadline—state and federal attorneys argued the county must face stricter consequences—and construction work continues as planned. - ➤ On April 30, the owner of Washington Memorial Gardens in Decatur said he will not pursue a crematorium and will instead seek rezoning for a funeral home, after community members expressed concerns.
