Good morning, Decatur.

Faduma Mohamed, the 23-year-old driver accused of killing a teen during a police chase in Little Five Points, remained in custody on Monday morning after a DeKalb County judge denied her bond—citing her flight risk and previous offenses.

Teresa Renee Owens, a 60-year-old Brookhaven woman who owned Better Home Healthcare of Georgia, was convicted of Medicaid fraud after her business repeatedly submitted false claims to Medicaid and was sentenced to 10 years with one year in prison—she must also repay $305,685.75.

Today, the Decatur Board of Education will consider its final FY26 budget + millage rate at the meeting at Elizabeth Wilson School Support Center, with a proposal to revert to last year’s rate of 20.3 and total general fund expenditures of $111.9 million; the agenda also includes swearing in a new student representative, a contract renewal with Communities In Schools, and updates from school officials following earlier community input. This meeting follows divisive discussions in April over budget options.
