- ➤ DeKalb County Police are searching for two missing girls—12-year-old Hailey and 13-year-old Taylor—who were last seen together around 11 p.m. Monday night on the 1000 block of North Hairston Road, with Hailey in a black tank top and pink Hello Kitty pants and Taylor in a black shirt and tights. - ➤ DeKalb County police investigated a shooting at a Shell gas station on the 6000 block of Hillandale Drive early Tuesday morning—officers secured the parking lot and collected evidence during the investigation. FOX 5 Atlanta
- ➤ James Rabbit said he drove eight hours from Myrtle Beach to Atlanta after seeing a Facebook ad to buy a 1977 Oldsmobile Cutlass and was robbed at gunpoint by Regi Knight, who accepted a 25-year sentence—16 years of which he will serve—even though Rabbit thinks the punishment is too lenient. - ➤ DeKalb County Schools broke ground on Sequoyah Middle School and Sequoyah High School on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Aztec Road campus in Doraville—these schools will share sports fields and a gym and will serve many Hispanic students in the Buford Highway corridor, with the middle school finishing in 2027 and the high school in 2029. - ➤ On May 12, the DeKalb County School District Board approved its plan for next year's budget with expected revenues of $1.620 billion and spending of $1.635 billion and set a 22.78 millage rollback. The board also renamed Pine Ridge Elementary to Stephenson Elementary (changing its mascot to a Jaguar and its colors—a move costing $120,000) to align with the nearby middle and high schools. - ➤ DeKalb County commissioners considered an ordinance on Tuesday, May 13 to limit pet litters to one per year for a female dog, cat, or domestic rabbit unless the owner is a licensed pet dealer or shelter operator. The measure also required reporting new litters—data that county Animal Services used to track animal numbers and ease pressure on local shelters, which cared for 522 dogs that day. FOX 5 Atlanta
