ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A fast-moving fire broke out at Austin Oak Apartments along Glenwood Road Tuesday morning, displacing 25 residents and damaging four units while firefighters contained heavy smoke; investigators are working to determine the cause.  FOX 5 Atlanta

CULTURE NEWS

  • Lungs of Mother Earth was unveiled on May 2 in Scottdale as part of the Compassion Corridor; the steel and wood sculpture featuring vines, flowers, and butterflies—placed near the PATH’s Stone Mountain Trail—invites visitors to pause and care for the environment.   • U.S. Rep. Mike Collins was projected to win first place in the May 19 primary, but a runoff with either Derek Dooley or U.S. Rep. Buddy Carter will decide who faces Sen. Ossoff this fall.  Atlanta News First
  • The Georgia DOT announced that all interstate lane closures will be suspended for Memorial Day weekend—effective Friday, May 22 at 12:00 p.m. through Tuesday, May 26 at 5:00 a.m.—to ease travel delays and improve safety, though some construction work zones may remain active.  On Common Ground News

  • Georgia DPH confirmed three measles cases in a metro Atlanta family who traveled internationally and were unvaccinated; officials are tracking contacts in the community + urging residents to check their MMR vaccination status.  WSB-TV

  • Freshman Reagan Graves scored 9.4 to qualify and placed sixth in the floor exercise at the GHSA State Gymnastics Meet held at Buford High School. She had won the county championships earlier (in April), helping Arabia Mountain finish second as a team.  The Champion
