  • Cedar Park reopened in April after upgrades added a new playground, basketball court, landscaping, and pavilion, while the renovated N.H. Scott pool and park will hold a ribbon cutting and celebration on June 6 (10 a.m. to noon) at Tilson Community in Decatur.  The Champion
  • Decatur-based Davis Bozeman Johnson Law announced this week that partners Harold W. Spence and Robert O.   • Recent heavy rains ended the drought but spurred increased mosquito and tick activity, experts say (noting that wet conditions speed up egg hatching and tick presence) and urging residents to eliminate standing water and use insect repellent.  Atlanta News First

  • City and county crews covered a sinkhole on Emerson + Drexel after recent rainstorms enlarged the hole that alarmed nearby residents. A permanent repair is not scheduled yet.  WSB-TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Residents planning to swim in the Chattahoochee River this week should reconsider as a spike in E. coli levels was reported after heavy rains; a riverkeeper (a local water quality expert) warns that water contact may be unsafe until conditions improve.  Atlanta News First

  • Former Braves star Bob Horner died at age 68, as confirmed by the team on social media. He was the 1978 Rookie of the Year and set a historic record (four home runs in one game) before playing in Japan and retiring.  WSB-TV
  • The U.S. Men’s National Team arrived in metro Atlanta earlier today to begin FIFA World Cup preparations, using local facilities as training bases until the tournament starts.  WSB-TV
