CRIME NEWS

  • Terry Burston, a felon with a robbery history since 1995, was arrested on May 17 after a string of armed robberies targeting postal offices and local businesses including a Decatur auto parts store and a Scottdale post office. He faces charges of postal robbery, aggravated assault on a federal employee, and using a firearm during a violent crime—officials said his arrest stopped further incidents.  Atlanta News First
  • Family and friends gathered on Tuesday at Cascade United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. for the private funeral of Dr. Cameisha Denise Clark—a Clark Atlanta University graduate who was shot at Spartan College in California—and she was buried at Willow Lake Memorial Gardens.  FOX 5 Atlanta

EDUCATION NEWS

  • DeKalb County Public Library launched its annual Summer Reading Challenge for all ages starting June 1 and will host over 500 free events that encourage reading and celebrate art under the theme Color Our World. Two family kick-off events are scheduled for early June with one on June 4 at Stonecrest Library, Decatur Recreation Center, and Toco Hill-Avis G. Williams Library + an author event on June 13 at Decatur Library.  On Common Ground News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • DeKalb County will start a project on July 7 to replace 11,000 feet of a 30-inch water main with a 36-inch ductile iron pipe along the northbound lane of Peachtree Industrial Boulevard and upgrade additional lines as part of a $4.27 billion program. The work will occur in three phases on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. — residents can join a public meeting on June 3 at Chamblee City Hall for more details.  FOX 5 Atlanta

SPORTS NEWS

  • Decatur FC women’s soccer team won its first two games over the weekend with scores of 8-1 over Union 10 FC and 5-2 over Atlanta Fire United at Decatur High School, drawing a record crowd of 2-550 fans; the team will host United Futbol Academy on Friday, May 30 at the same venue.  Decaturish
