  • Simone Woodly joined Decaturish as its 2025 summer intern from June 3 through August 7—born and raised in Atlanta, she is a rising sophomore at Arizona State University studying broadcast journalism and aims to become a reporter.  Decaturish
  • In May, contractors uncovered a brick vault during the building of a multi-use trail at Legacy Park in Decatur, halting work as it may be an unmarked grave. City officials and state experts used ground-penetrating radar to study the site and will choose a new alignment once final results are available.  Decaturish
  • Growings! hydroponics farm in Tucker held a ribbon cutting on May 20—officials including Mayor Frank Auman praised its role in growing fresh vegetables year-round for the NETWorks food pantry—and the facility will also teach the community about hydroponics.  The Champion
  • The Davis Bozeman Law Firm in Decatur will host its annual DB Giving Express summer event on June 8 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. to deliver food, toys, toiletries, and feminine hygiene products to 250 families living in hotels and motels across DeKalb County+ community members are invited to volunteer, donate, or sponsor the initiative.  The Champion

  • On National Soul Food Day, Teneshia Murray of T's Brunch Bar joined Alex Whittler in the Good Day kitchen to prepare her signature dishes and revealed her secret for making delicious ox tails—an event that honored local culinary traditions.  Fox 5 Atlanta

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Four Decatur City Schools were honored by the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement for improving students’ college readiness—Westchester Elementary earned the gold-level award for being in the top 97% while Glennwood, Winnona Park, and Fifth Avenue Upper Elementary received silver-level awards by placing in the top 95% over the past three years.  FOX 5 Atlanta

  • Decatur Mayor Patti Garrett announced—after careful reflection—that she will not run for reelection for the District 2 commission seat in November. She remains focused on finishing her term and looks forward to serving the community in other ways next year.  Decaturish

  • Atlanta Dream guard Allisha Gray earned the WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week honor for week two of the season after she helped lead her team to a 5-2 start with strong shooting and key wins — making her the first Dream player to win the award since Rhyne Howard in 2022.  Atlanta News First
