- ➤ Ricky Lamar Hawk, known as Silentó, pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during a crime, and concealing a death in connection with the 2021 shooting of his cousin in unincorporated Decatur—he was sentenced to 30 years in prison by a DeKalb County judge. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ City Schools of Decatur is moving forward with plans to build a new early learning center at 346 W. Trinity Place after the Planning Commission approved the site plan on June 10 with conditions for a traffic study and reduced on-site parking. The 36,000 square foot facility will serve 135 to 150 students from birth to pre-K with construction planned for this fall and final approval pending at the City Commission meeting on June 16 — the project is part of a $35 million capital plan aimed at easing current waitlists.
