- ➤ Construction of a multiuse path near Legacy Park was halted last month when contractors found a brick vault—an investigation using ground-penetrating radar suggests it may cover 33 unmarked burials from as early as the 1880s, including many children. City officials said they will work to memorialize the burials while exploring alternate plans for the project. Atlanta News First
- ➤ Gas South’s Fuel for Good initiative is in its eighth year and will award up to $100,000 to two nonprofits after receiving over 390 applications; customers began voting on six finalists on June 17, including Tucker groups Friends of Disabled Adults and Children and Lekotek of Georgia. - ➤ City Schools of Decatur said that the deadline for non-resident tuition applications is near and families should apply soon to be eligible. The school district warned that missing the deadline could affect enrollment. Atlanta News First

- ➤ Congressman Hank Johnson and officials attended a groundbreaking ceremony today at 10 a.m. for the Village at Legacy affordable housing project at Legacy Park in Decatur. The project will move forward in two phases — each providing 66 housing units for low-income families. WSB-TV
- ➤ A historic Decatur neighborhood has been spared the installation of new power lines — officials reviewed community input when finalizing plans. Atlanta News First
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ A report from the Office of Inspector General found that the Atlanta VA Medical Center in Decatur had issues with broken water lines, outdated supplies, and low staffing that led to unanswered calls from veterans. The report calls for installing emergency call boxes in parking garages and improving test result communication and medical clearances for veterans in the Compensated Work Therapy program.
