CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Taco Nash, Jr.—a 25-year-old from Lithonia—was convicted in Decatur for fatally shooting Mi’ckeya Montgomery, the mother of his child, outside a daycare center on June 15 while she was picking up her child, and he was sentenced on July 3 to life without parole plus two extra life sentences and 60 years to serve. - ➤ DeKalb County CEO Lorraine Cochran-Johnson named Tonza Clark as the new director of Code Compliance and Enforcement to lead efforts to maintain safe property standards (following more than 18 years in county government). - ➤ The DeKalb County Commission is holding a meeting today at 9 a.m. at the Government Service Center in Decatur to set the 2025 millage rate at 20.81 mills, the same as in 2024, and to accept public comments. Commissioners will also review a $5.3 million DOT grant, a 100-day moratorium on new data centers, an $11.4 million contract for airport runway repairs, and a $25 million payment to Atlanta for capital improvements.
