CRIME NEWS

  • Taco Nash, Jr.—a 25-year-old from Lithonia—was convicted in Decatur for fatally shooting Mi’ckeya Montgomery, the mother of his child, outside a daycare center on June 15 while she was picking up her child, and he was sentenced on July 3 to life without parole plus two extra life sentences and 60 years to serve.  On Common Ground News

  • DeKalb County CEO Lorraine Cochran-Johnson named Tonza Clark as the new director of Code Compliance and Enforcement to lead efforts to maintain safe property standards (following more than 18 years in county government). Clark, a graduate of Redan High School (and Georgia Southern University), is set to improve neighborhood quality of life.  The Champion
  • The DeKalb County Commission is holding a meeting today at 9 a.m. at the Government Service Center in Decatur to set the 2025 millage rate at 20.81 mills, the same as in 2024, and to accept public comments. Commissioners will also review a $5.3 million DOT grant, a 100-day moratorium on new data centers, an $11.4 million contract for airport runway repairs, and a $25 million payment to Atlanta for capital improvements.  Decaturish
  • A waterline replacement project is underway in DeKalb County as crews update aging pipes to improve water service, and residents may notice temporary changes until the work is complete.  Atlanta News First
