The 100 Black Men of DeKalb County and local partners are hosting the free three-day Summer of Peace back-to-school event with workshops and performances from Aug.

1 to 3 — a celebration of unity and learning. Today the event moves to Decatur for a worship and legacy service from 10 a.m. to noon at Peace Baptist Church.

A DeKalb County family at Bolden Pines Apartments on Kelly Lake Road reported unsafe living conditions with water damage, fungus, and roaches.

Jenee Johnson said repairs briefly fixed the air conditioning but worsened damage—she filed a code enforcement complaint and is fundraising for relocation.

Delta Community Credit Union is accepting applications for its 2026 Philanthropic Fund Program — it will award $150,000 in grants to 20 nonprofit organizations that help families manage budgets and support youth in metro Atlanta.

On August 2nd, officials confirmed that two people died when they tried to cross I-85 near Decatur—rescue teams responded quickly and an investigation is underway.

Five DeKalb County attorneys—including Oto Ekpo, Donna Coleman Stribling, Claudia Saari, Tedra Cannella, and Dax Lopez—were elected or reelected to serve on the 160-member Board of Governors of the State Bar of Georgia, representing the DeKalb Judicial Circuit which holds policy meetings at least four times a year. The State Bar’s Alternative Dispute Resolution Section, chaired by Shan Momin from Decatur, was awarded the 2024–25 Section of the Year Award during its Annual Meeting on June 6.

Columbia alum Greg Barnett—who became head coach in 2020—helped turn the Eagles program around with three winning seasons and a region title since 2021.

He expects the team to build on its core values and prepare to face the Cartersville Hurricanes on Aug. 14.
