- ➤ City Schools of Decatur started the 2025-26 year with three new principals—Bill Howard at Glennwood Elementary, Alexis Glenn as interim principal at Beacon Hill Middle, and Derrick Thomas at Fifth Avenue Upper Elementary. The district also put new safety measures in place with background checks, school resource officers, and a weapons detection system while maintaining no teacher vacancies and having six district-wide openings. - ➤ DeKalb County and the Urban League launched the Water Rate Assistance Program Friday to help eligible households deal with a 10% water and sewer rate increase as part of a 10-year plan to fund system improvements—households with income at or below 60% of HUD limits will have their water costs capped at 4.5% of annual income.
