- ➤ Officials with Dragon Con announced that NAMI Georgia—based in DeKalb and serving people with mental illnesses—was named the 2025 charity recipient as the convention kicks off in Atlanta from today through Sept. 1. - ➤ Authorities are investigating two separate inmate deaths at DeKalb County Jail that occurred in recent days—officials provided few details and have not released the names. Fox 5 Atlanta

- ➤ On Aug. 27, DeKalb County announced a program to help senior homeowners remove dangerous trees at no cost. Eligible seniors aged 62 or older with incomes below 60% of the Area Median Income should apply soon at 178 Sams St. + phone support is available Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. On Common Ground News
- ➤ A federal judge questioned whether Spanish-language journalist Mario Guevara, who was arrested covering a June protest and remains in immigration detention after his charges were dropped, should be released immediately—his lawyers argue his detention violates his constitutional rights while the government cites his removability. Guevara, a long-time reporter who built his career by livestreaming events, is now awaiting a decision after his bond was set and then held in abeyance. WSB-TV
