COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Decatur Parks and Recreation is drafting a master plan for Oakhurst Park — Sugar Creek Garden that may add new tennis, pickleball and sand volleyball courts, shift the softball and multipurpose fields, and expand parking and trails. The city commission will review the plan on Oct. 6 while local residents express concerns about noise, emergency access, and the loss of neighborhood space.  Decaturish

CULTURE NEWS

  • On Sept. 13, the free three-part series A Shakespeare Happening took place at Avondale Estates Town Green with musical shows for kids and sneak peek scenes from Macbeth. Commissioner Ted Terry helped sponsor the event after he saw the town's Tudor-Revival architecture—Shakespeare's birthplace and a perfect setting for the series.  Decaturish

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • DeKalb County elections officials announced a list of 10 early voting sites for October’s election cycle—voters can cast ballots in person from Oct. 14 to Oct. 31 with five sites offering ballot drop off boxes. The drop off sites include Berean Christian Church in Stone Mountain, Beulah Missionary Baptist Church in Decatur, Dunwoody Library, Salem Panola Library, and Tucker-Reid H. Cofer Library while absentee ballot requests start Oct. 6.  WSB-TV
  • The Rockbridge Coalition is hosting a virtual meeting on Sept. 20, 10 a.m. to discuss concerns over a proposed data center in Ellenwood—residents can learn about its potential impacts since DeKalb County does not yet have clear zoning rules.  On Common Ground News

  • From Sept. 11 to Sept. 12, DeKalb high school football teams won 12 games including six on the road as they boosted their region play—Chamblee ended a five-game losing streak by beating the Decatur Bulldogs 36—10. Several teams also won region games to improve their playoff chances.  The Champion
