- ➤ The DeKalb Fire Department and the family of Master Firefighter Preston Fant will hold his funeral at Truist Park nine days after he was killed in the line of duty—his service is honored by this final tribute. Atlanta News First

- ➤ On North Druid Hills Road in Decatur, a wings and burger restaurant in Shamrock Plaza received an unsatisfactory health inspection score of 63 from Sept. 8 that cited issues such as cups on the floor and unsafe rice temperatures—while Paolino on Mead Road earned a perfect score of 100 and the golden spatula award after five years in business. - ➤ Stone Mountain’s Netherworld was named the Most Technologically Innovative haunt in America by America Haunts and will debut its Monsters Attack! theme today. Co-owner Ben Armstrong said the attraction uses more than 450 special effects — including a 20-foot gargoyle and AI voiceovers — to give visitors a never-before-seen experience. Atlanta News First

- ➤ DeKalb County crews are repairing a broken 6-inch water main at 2853 Orion Dr. in Greater Decatur, affecting nearly 100 residents along Orion Drive, Thrift Place, Hollywood Drive, and Valley Place (traffic controls are in place and water service may be interrupted) as drivers are advised to avoid the area. - ➤ Decatur officials have appointed a 29-member commission to review the city charter that sets out how the city runs—some members were chosen by city commission appointments, advisory boards, the school board, and a civic lottery in July. The commission will study key parts of the charter and hold more public meetings after a community meeting on Aug 7 to guide any changes—plans that may later need state approval. Decaturish
- ➤ Jonathan Hunt, the interim CEO of MARTA, said at a meeting on Sept. 11 that the transit system will hire more operators and add 30 officers to boost safety and service. He said upgrades to the payment system by April and plans for the FIFA World Cup are underway while the board begins its search for a permanent CEO—promising key improvements for riders. The Champion
