GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The DeKalb County Commission approved a $21M contract for sewer cleaning for three years on Sept. 23 with Atakapa Services, International Design Services, and the Renee Group to meet federal spill prevention requirements. The meeting also honored fallen firefighter Preston Fant with a moment of silence and deferred resolutions on land swap, rezoning, and budget amendments — steps meant to address ongoing county issues. - ➤ The Tax Commissioner extended property tax payment hours at the Memorial Drive office in Decatur to 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday until Sept. 30—taxpayers must use the UGA Extension entrance while those with disabilities may use the Northern Avenue entrance. On Common Ground News
- ➤ At its Sept. 24 meeting, Avondale Estates City Commission planned a special-called meeting to interview local residents for eight open committee seats including four on the Downtown Development Authority, with interviews set by the end of this year.
