EDUCATION NEWS

  • The DeKalb Schools Educational Foundation and DCSD Superintendent Devon Horton and district officials unveiled the Pathway to Excellence Brick Walk at Fernbank Science Center on Sept. 25th—its engraved quotes are meant to inspire STEM interest and fund school programs. The foundation awarded its first grants, including a $50,000 Environmental Educational Field Trip Grant and micro-grants that will benefit over 5,000 students.  The Champion

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Thursday, Georgia lawmakers debated expanding medical marijuana access by considering new qualifying conditions—insomnia, non-PTSD anxiety, depression, and fibromyalgia. This discussion took place in the state legislature as officials reviewed potential changes to the current bill.  Atlanta News First
  • Georgia cities enforce strict leaf collection rules this fall, with Atlanta requiring leaves to be bagged in containers no larger than 32 gallons and weighing no more than 35 pounds; residents may face fines if they break the rules—municipal codes vary across metro areas.  Atlanta News First
