CULTURE NEWS

  • Nitti Beatz, a renowned hip-hop producer who grew up in Decatur, will hold a one-day power course on October 8 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Porter Sanford Center to teach kids and youth how to create a hit record—he has produced songs with top artists.  WSB-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Monday, the Georgia Department of Education released graduation rates showing that 134 school districts reached 90% or above + record high rates were reported in metro Atlanta and other areas.  WSB-TV
  • Georgia Pre-K Week will take place from Oct.6-10, and former UGA football player Malcolm Mitchell and musician Coy Bowles from the Zac Brown Band wrote a new children's book for the event—every Pre-K student will receive a free copy.  Fox 5 Atlanta

  • Today, the DeKalb County Commission meets at 5:30 p.m. at the Government Service Center on 178 Sams St to discuss rezoning Washington Memorial Gardens at 700 Jordan Lane for a funeral home—this follows a planning commission recommendation to change zoning from R-75 to Office Institutional and comes as the county reviews draft data center regulations addressing noise, landscaping, and design guidelines.  Decaturish
  • A councilman was accused of spending $30K on international trips — including fine dining — using a city-issued credit card, officials said, raising concerns over public funds.  WSB-TV
  • DeKalb Watershed Management is hosting a Zoom meeting today at 6:30 p.m. to discuss the Dunwoody Knoll water main replacement project—crews will replace more than 14,000 feet of iron pipe from Roberts Drive to Redfield Road next week as part of the county's infrastructure plan.  Atlanta News First
