- ➤ Friends of Disabled Adults and Children repairs donated wheelchairs and other mobility devices at its Tucker warehouse to help local residents stay moving. The nonprofit runs monthly delivery routes and provides rapid support during disasters—ensuring people with disabilities maintain their independence. Atlanta News First
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ DeKalb County School District announced that eight schools are named Title I Reward winners for showing strong progress in English and math; the count, which rose from six last year, is the highest in Georgia (the award honors schools serving many low-income students). The Champion
- ➤ The DeKalb County School District’s graduation rate reached 81.4% in 2025—a 2.7-point improvement and the highest in over a decade—with four schools celebrating a 100% graduation rate. Eighteen of 23 high schools made gains and subgroups saw record highs in their rates. On Common Ground News

- ➤ The DeKalb County Board of Registration and Elections will meet Oct. 9 at 4:30 p.m. at 4380 Memorial Drive, Suite 300 in Decatur—public comments will be accepted in person or via email if sent between 35 and 5 minutes before the meeting and kept to one printed page. - ➤ State transportation officials announced that the federal exemption for HOV lanes has ended and new rules will be introduced for local routes soon—drivers in Decatur should expect updated occupancy requirements. The agency plans to hold a public meeting to share further details. Atlanta News First
- ➤ Drivers of alternative fuel vehicles in Georgia must now carry at least two passengers to use high-occupancy vehicle lanes statewide—this change also applies to HOT lanes on I-85.
