  • Atlanta Hawks legend Dominque Wilkins distributed free fresh food to families in need at the Wellstar Mobile Market on Thursday — the event aimed to help local families.  Fox 5 Atlanta
  • Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation will host its eighth Evening in the End Zone fundraiser on Oct. 7 at the Chick-fil-A Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta to raise funds for vision care for uninsured and underinsured neighbors. The sold-out event is expected to challenge last year’s record of raising over half a million dollars by 500 fans and will include auctions, a seated dinner and awards — such as the Lighthouse Beacon of Hope Award for outstanding vision healthcare service.  The Champion

  • The DeKalb Regional Land Bank Authority Board will meet on Oct. 9 at 2 p.m. at 178 Sams Street in Decatur—attendees can join in person or online.  On Common Ground News
  • DeKalb County began sewer work on Columbia Woods/Toney Drive with road closures on Toney Drive, Columbia Woods Drive, Glendale Drive, Saratoga Drive and Thrasher Circle — detour signage directs traffic while work continues until November 3. A water main replacement on Panola Road will start on Oct.13 as crews replace over 11,400 linear feet of ductile iron pipe in two phases.  Decaturish
  • DeKalb County is asking volunteers to join its Judicial Citizen Panel Review Program that helps judges review cases of children in foster care—volunteers must be 21 or older, pass a background check, and attend virtual sessions with interviews running until Oct. 27 and training on Oct. 30.  The Champion
  • DeKalb CEO Lorraine Cochran-Johnson and Commissioner LaDena Bolton will host a Data Center town hall on Oct. 15 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Porter Sanford III Performing Arts Center on Rainbow Drive in Decatur. Attendees must register—seating is limited for those learning about energy, water use, infrastructure and computing trends.  On Common Ground News

  • The Southwest DeKalb Panthers beat the undefeated Lithonia Bulldogs 31-14 at Hallford Stadium on October 2—kicker Kelvin Saturday made a key 40-yard field goal and defensive back Myson Perry scored a pick-six to secure the win—ending Lithonia’s perfect record.  The Champion
  • High school flag football grew rapidly in DeKalb County after DCSD prioritized the sport—every high school now fields a varsity team—and coaches like Desmond Lee plus NFL recognition of Montez Swinney helped boost community interest.  The Champion
