BUSINESS NEWS

  • Decatur DDA approved $116,000 in grants for 13 local businesses to improve storefronts, interiors and digital marketing before WatchFest26 during the 2026 FIFA World Cup next summer. Projects must start within six months and be finished in 12 to 18 months—grants cover up to 75 percent of approved costs.  The Champion

CULTURE NEWS

  • Woodlands Garden in Decatur is hosting its 13th annual Fairies in the Garden exhibit (Oct. 4 to Oct. 18) featuring tiny handcrafted fairy houses made by horticulture therapy clients from Skyland Trail and Hillside Atlanta. Visitors can join free guided walks and craft sessions to explore the magical display.  The Champion

EDUCATION NEWS

  • DeKalb County School District is holding public meetings to discuss the future of Druid Hills High School—its oldest facility built in 1927—with a session today at DeKalb School of the Arts and another next Monday at Druid Hills Middle School. District leaders will debate options including selling the property, relocating the school or modernizing the building that has faced issues such as exposed wiring, leaking sewage and cracked walls.  Fox 5 Atlanta
  • DeKalb County Schools announced that starting in January when the second half of the 2025-26 school year begins, all schools will have a 30-minute recess time instead of 15 minutes. Superintendent Dr. Devon Horton said schools can make the change immediately after local parents pushed for longer breaks.  Atlanta News First

  • The city launched a program to help seniors manage rising property taxes—efforts include financial counseling and support services to ease the burden of tax hikes. Officials said the initiative will provide essential resources to eligible residents.  WSB-TV
