BUSINESS NEWS

  • Target will soon open its largest store in metro Atlanta in over a decade—expected to offer more shopping options and create new job opportunities for local residents.  WSB-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • After months of debate, DeKalb County will let all elementary students have a 30-minute recess each day by January—replacing the 15-minute break that was cut to extend literacy instruction. Parents supported the change with a petition that gathered over 2,800 signatures.  FOX 5 Atlanta
  • DeKalb County parents weighed in on the century-old Druid Hills High School as the board considers three options—modernizing the school on Haygood Drive for $100 million or building a new facility at either the DeKalb School of the Arts or Druid Hills Middle School at an added $80 million. Public meetings have begun and more feedback is expected in two weeks as community members hope local partners like Emory Hospital will help preserve the historic school.  WSB-TV

  • City leaders discussed possible upgrades to Oakhurst Park in Decatur — they will review improvement steps in upcoming meetings.  Atlanta News First
  • The Decatur City Commission approved a plan on Oct. 6 to improve trails at Sugar Creek Garden + Hawk Hollow with new volleyball courts, relocated fields, and enhanced walking paths while deferring changes at Oakhurst Park.
