- ➤ The Decatur school district held its first Transition Fair on October 17 at Ebster Recreation Center to help students with disabilities plan for life after graduation. Community partners Young Americans with Disabilities Association, Disability Link, and Bridges From School to Work provided guidance on job training, post-secondary education, and independent living. - ➤ A colorful new mural now greets students and visitors at Mary McCleod Bethune Middle School in Decatur—created by school staff with the help of the National Council of Negro Women DeKalb Section and the National Black State Troopers Coalition to honor the school’s mascots and namesake while also donating book bags and a check to support students. - ➤ DeKalb County commissioners will host an art event on Oct. 30 from 6 to 8 p.m. at The Chapel on Sycamore, 318 Sycamore St in Decatur to gather community input on future projects — a meeting aimed to shape plans that support local art. The gathering is sponsored by Commissioner Michelle Long Spears along with Ted Terry and LaDena Bolton, with local artists on hand to share their ideas. The Champion
