  • Alumni and family gathered at Legacy Park on Oct. 4 to share memories from their time at the United Methodist Children’s Home—many recalled special moments like learning piano and shared picnics that marked their early years.   • A family business removed an iconic piano that had been rising over I-85 since 1984 as it prepared to move locations—this change ends a longstanding local landmark many residents recognized.  Atlanta News First

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Several local groups asked the school district to pause plans for an early childhood learning center on a downtown greenspace (citing historic and environmental concerns) while the district said the property must be used for education and set a groundbreaking for December.  Atlanta News First

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Wild Nest Bird Rehab now operates out of a cottage at Legacy Park in Decatur where they care for injured and orphaned wild birds such as Carolina wrens and robins. The rehab center uses separate rooms for different bird ages — from nestlings to adults — and aims to help preserve native species like chimney swifts.  Decaturish

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • MARTA said crews replaced old pavers at Garnett Station since Sept. 13th to fix over 40 years of wear and tear, and repairs are nearly complete. The $9.9 million project will finish on Oct. 26th — service will resume on Oct. 27th and saved 14 months of time plus $5 million in costs.  WSB-TV

  • Pumpkins are in high demand as fall arrives, with local outlets in Decatur offering varieties for carving and treats. Your DeKalb Farmers Market provides a wide selection and baked treats while Glenn United Methodist Church hosts a pumpkin patch every day except Tuesdays through Oct. 27—proceeds support its youth ministry and Southern Pumpkin Charm delivers custom festive displays.  The Champion
