ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ A survey by the Atlanta Regional Commission found that housing affordability, traffic and safety are top concerns in metro Atlanta after polling 4,121 adults across 11 counties and the City of Atlanta. The commission also highlighted a pilot program for an autonomous vehicle service—funded by MARTA’s $10 million investment—that will launch next year near the airport. Atlanta News First
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ DeKalb County Schools will open the enrollment application for families living outside the district in exactly one week — the cutoff is Oct. 31 and lottery decisions will be announced on Dec. 19. A second application window will run from Jan. 12 to Jan. 23 with results given on Feb. 27. WSB-TV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Due to the federal shutdown, the Georgia Department of Human Services said families will not receive SNAP benefits starting Nov. 1 as funds are insufficient and EBT cards will stop working—recipients should use existing funds and prepare for new work requirements under the federal One Big Beautiful Bill. - ➤ The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced that SNAP benefits will not be available in Georgia after Nov. 1 due to the ongoing government shutdown; beneficiaries are advised to use funds already on their EBT cards (state officials urge households to plan ahead). Atlanta News First
