  • Avondale Estates celebrated its annual tree lighting at Town Green on Dec. 8, with dances by DeKalb School of the Arts ballerinas, carols by the Decatur Avondale Children's Choir, and a visit from Santa.  Decaturish
  • Nearly 1,000 metro Atlanta dogs need homes as shelters exceed capacity, with Fulton County Animal Services (1251 Fulton Industrial Blvd NW) reporting 33 extra arrivals and DeKalb County Animal Services (3280 Chamblee Dunwoody Road) listing urgent cases today.   • Nearly 100 residents gathered at Wesley Chapel Library Tuesday night to oppose a proposed million-sqft data center in Ellenwood — voicing concerns over environmental impact and long-term health risks. EDUCATION NEWS

  • The DeKalb County school board approved a $140 million renovation plan for Druid Hills High School last Monday after public concerns over the building's condition. School officials will outline construction timelines later this school year.  FOX 5 Atlanta
  • DeKalb County School Board approved an $185 million upgrade for Druid Hills High School Monday, promising improvements to the roof, sewer, and a new four-story building + voting on funding is set for a midterm referendum next year.  Atlanta News First

  • Community members attended a packed forum at Wesley Chapel–William C. Brown Library Tuesday night to discuss a planned 1 million–sqft data center campus in Ellenwood. Officials said a vote on new rules is scheduled for Dec. 16 after residents voiced concerns over pollution and energy use.  Atlanta News First
  • After commissioners approved a 50-year, $45 million contract to expand hangars at DeKalb-Peachtree Airport, residents raised concerns over noise, safety and home values during a town hall. The build is set to begin in 2026 (with a vote on contract tweaks scheduled for January).  Atlanta News First
  • DeKalb County leaders are set to vote on new rules for data centers on Dec. 15 while organizers hold a town hall meeting at 6:00 p.m. today at Porter Sanford Auditorium in South Dekalb to discuss community concerns over a proposed one-million sqft facility in Ellenwood.  FOX 5 Atlanta
