Good morning, Decatur.

The annual Bonfire and Marshmallow Roast warmed downtown Decatur on Thursday, Dec.

11 (held at Decatur Square) and offered free holiday songs from Tally Street Chorus with treats like hot chocolate and marshmallows; Decatur Fire Rescue monitored the event (for a safe community experience).

DeKalb County removed more than 37,000 illegally dumped tires this year and police secured warrants for suspects; county officials plan to press lawmakers for tougher penalties and will launch a tire collection program in the first quarter of 2026.

The crackdown targets dump sites in wooded areas, ravines, creeks, and neighborhoods to protect public health + the environment.

Dekalb County has opened three warming centers to shelter unhoused residents from the bitter cold — centers at 2585 Gresham Road, 2050-C Chamblee Tucker Road, and 2771 Columbia Drive in Decatur provide meals and emergency transportation until Tuesday.
