- ➤ Bishop William C. Harris, a civil rights leader and founding member of the Atlanta chapter of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC), died Dec. 9 after a long battle with cancer; his funeral is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 20 at Grace Baptist Church in Stockbridge. - ➤ Rainbow Park Baptist Church will host a food distribution with fresh produce and essential goods at 2941 Columbia Drive in Decatur on Dec. 31 at noon (supplies are limited). The event is free and requires no registration. On Common Ground News
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ On Dec. 5, a fire truck lost control and jack-knifed into a ditch near S. Deshon Road, critically injuring firefighter Eboni Kennedy, whose injuries required a leg amputation and multiple surgeries (colleagues are raising funds for her recovery) as investigators probed the incident. WSB-TV

- ➤ BeetleCat’s cocktail bar in Decatur hosts a retro Christmas pop-up with over 3,000 feet of tinsel and festive holiday drinks. The event runs until Dec. 31 and is presented by Rocket Farm Restaurants. Atlanta News First

- ➤ DeKalb County will close both lanes of North Druid Hills Road at the intersection with Spring Creek Road starting Monday night at 7 p.m. Crews will repair a damaged sewer main while water service remains unaffected & motorists are advised to use caution. WSB-TV
- ➤ DeKalb County today opened a $4 million pet neighborhood shelter expansion to improve care for local animals — the upgrade will expand shelter capacity and enhance services for pets in the community. WSB-TV
