Good morning, Decatur.

Hosea Helps fed 1,500 people on Christmas for metro Atlanta families as nearly 200 volunteers delivered free meals amid record demand from SNAP cuts and financial strain.

The nonprofit said many recipients were at risk of homelessness or struggling to pay utilities.

This season, several local organizations in Decatur and nearby are seeking volunteers for projects like historic preservation, equestrian park upkeep, art center assistance, housing repairs, food pantry management & pet care.

Volunteers must complete screening and training before assisting with these community efforts.

Nearly 60 families in DeKalb County secured fully furnished apartments at The Park 500 complex this holiday season after commissioners approved an $8 million investment.

The program offers a 12‑month rent‑free stay — families needed to bring only food and clothes.

On Christmas, actor Skyh Black, TV personality Kelli Ferrell and producer Two Lewis partnered with Food in the City to transform a local Walmart in Decatur into a festive gift hub for families.

The event took place on Dec. 25.

Nearly 60 families left extended stay hotels for safe housing through the county's new Park 500 transitional program (its first), which offers fully furnished one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments to help families celebrate Christmas.
