- ➤ Fallen DeKalb County master firefighter Preston Fant's body was taken on Wednesday morning from a medical examiner's office to a funeral home after he was killed in a warehouse fire on Monday. Fox 5 Atlanta

- ➤ Decatur's Downtown Development Authority has offered a $200,000 grant program for small businesses to upgrade storefronts and online presence before the World Cup next year. - ➤ Casting Call has announced open opportunities for film and TV projects in metro Atlanta, inviting actors, musicians and models of all ages to apply for roles that include extras and key characters. - ➤ The Decatur School Board approved the single-story option for a $22 million Early Childhood Learning Center at its Sept 9 meeting—this design is part of a $35 million capital plan that includes a high school expansion. - ➤ Decatur Education Foundation will host its second annual Battle of the Bands fundraiser on Saturday, Sept. 13, from 2-8 p.m. at Legacy Park — six school bands will perform to support local music and arts while the school with the highest attendance wins a $1,000 grant. Decaturish

- ➤ DeKalb County Watershed Management crews are replacing sewer lines and manhole structures on 2nd and 3rd Avenues in Decatur—2nd Avenue work is ongoing until Sept. 19 while work on 3rd Avenue will run from Sept. 29 to Oct. 17 with daily shifts from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. - ➤ DeKalb County Fire and Rescue escorted fallen firefighter Preston Fant from Fire Station 24 to the West Cobb Funeral Home on Wednesday morning—he died on Monday while trying to save a fellow firefighter at a warehouse fire and is survived by his wife and five children. WSB-TV
